Welcome to the new magical series about a girl and her secret scribble witch, guaranteed to make 7-9s laugh out loud.

When Molly’s best friend announces that she’s moving to a new school, a blue Wednesday becomes the Worst Wednesday Ever.

That is until some unexpected magic brightens up Molly’s day. Notes, a tiny paper witch who has been lurking in a pen pot, springs to life – and into action! Some of the things Notes does are absolutely NOT helpful and get Molly into trouble with her grouchbag teacher. But it’s surprising what one tiny witch, armed with nothing more than a pencil, can achieve before the bell for home time rings…

With a vibrant, unique voice, and amazing illustrations to match, Inky Willis conjures up magic for every reader!

Published 19th March 2020 in paperback and ebook by Hachette Children’s.

You can order your own copy from Hive Books, your local bookshop, Amazon, or library.

Ok so not exactly my own thoughts as we shared reading this book together, so this is a joint effort with my 9 year old son who’s brutally honest in his opinions, like many 9 year olds are!

His opinion of this book is that it was “brilliant, I loved it!” so there you are.

Notes is an adorable character that has an endearing voice throughout this book (my son loved that her narrative is written in a way that gives her such a personality and a “funny voice”)

The illustrations are engaging and draw you in to the story including text art, notes and speech bubbles that makes this book well laid out for readers of all abilities and eye-catching for those who perhaps struggle with larger chunks of text. It reminded me of the Tom Gates style of books that are brilliant for all kinds of readers.

We enjoyed the notes, the appearance of Captain Purrkins and our mutual dislike of stinky teacher Mr Stilton (we made many cheese jokes). This is a fun and spellbinding story about friendship, school life and how our imagination can help us through hard times (even Wednesdays!).

Thank you so much to Inky Willis for sending us a proof copy of this book that has been reviewed honestly, entirely in our own words.
